Book Review: "Fascinate" By Sally Hogshead!

Name of Book: Fascinate: Your 7 Triggers to Persuasion and Captivation

Author: Sally Hogshead

When I first started reading this book, I wasn't sure the topic would pertain to me. Many of the examples and research studies were about marketing. Well, marketing is all about "captivating" an audience, "fascinating" that audience and keeping that audience coming back.

I quickly discovered that Fascinate: Your 7 Triggers to Persuasion and Captivation could help me with my blogging. I am constantly trying to make this blog better for, you, my reader. I don't want you to be bored with my blog and then never come back.

One of my favorite excerpts from the book is when Sally discusses faces helping us connect.

"Michelin tires plunks a couple of animated eyes and a smile onto a charmless stack of tires and presto, those tires have a sparkling personality."

There are 7 emotional triggers of fascination.

Lust - creates craving for sensory pleasure
Mystique - lures with unanswered questions
Alarm - threatens with negative consequences
Power - commands and controls
Vice - tempts with "forbidden fruits" causing us to rebel against norms
Trust - comforts us with certainty and reliability
Prestige- earns respect through symbols of achievement

If you would like to find your Fascination score, go HERE!

Here's what my results were:
Your primary fascination is POWER. (Nicely done, you.) Even without realizing it, you’re already instinctively applying this trigger when trying to persuade others. Your secondary trigger is MYSTIQUE, and your dormant trigger (the one you’re least likely to apply in your personality and behavior) is REBELLION

So, whether you need help engaging people for work, school or even in every day social situations...I would highly recommend reading Fascinate!

It's so interesting to see where everyone falls on the Fascination spectrum and how they utilize their triggers. Love this!
